Salisbury United 2011 Devine State League Champions

Salisbury United FC have taken out the Minor Premiership and State League Champions for 2011.

After 90 minutes in beautiful sunshine Salisbury United overcame a slow starting South Adelaide to win the Grand Final of the Devine State League. Within 6 minutes Salisbury had scored their first goal after some beautiful build up play, Aaron Taye sent in a beautifully weighted cross, which Russell Harris converted with ease. South Adelaide seemed to be struggling with the pace of Stephen Orange and Aaron Taye on the wings and Steve Stam directing traffic with Scott Lindsay in the middle.

It wasn’t long before Salisbury struck again this time it was Stephen Orange on the end of a Aaron Taye ball 2 nil Salisbury. It was obvious at this stage the heat was going to take it’s toll on the players with the pace of the game, with any stoppage players took the opportunity to rehydrate as the hot northernly blew straight down the pitch at Hindmarsh Stadium.

South Adelaide at times tryed to moved into space and attack but were struggling to make passes stick and within 20 minutes Steve Stam struck to make it 3 nil to Salisbury, the game seemed to be beyond South Adelaide. The intensity continued with a few missed opportunities from both sides, South Adelaide struggled with Salisbury’s defence and tried their luck with long range attempts to no avail. With Half time up the players used the time to regroup.

The 2nd half saw the intensity drop and the game became a more physical encounter with a number of players going to ground in some hard fought tackles. Salisbury continued their attack on South Adelaide but failed to convert with the cross bar being rattle a number of times. As the second half went on it became more of an arm wrestle, with Salisbury dominating possession and South Adelaide continuing to throw everything at the Salisbury defence but were meet with stern resistance.  Coach Rocky Aloisi made a change to keep up the attack by bringing on Patrick Colliar for Stephen Orange.

With a few more changes Salisbury held out South Adelaide to finish 3-0 at Full Time to take home the Devine State League Trophy for 2011. Man of the Match was Captain Steve Stam with another outstanding effort. Rocky Aloisi’s boys combined well in the Final and used the good pitch conditions to their advantage. Congratulations to Rocky, Carmine, Alan and all the team for their impressive season.
